When most people want to make an expensive purchase, they slowly feed money into a savings account. But when Dan and Shawna Hill want to splurge, they simply open the Dolly Helper app and start bidding on jobs as one of Dolly’s Helper/Assistant teams.
The Perfect Side Hustle
Dan and Shawna, a married couple from Seattle, started moving for Dolly a few months ago after Dan saw an ad on Facebook. “The concept of Dolly hit home with me given I have a truck, I enjoy making money from side ventures, and I can work my Dollys around my current schedule,” Dan explained.
That schedule includes a full-time job during the week, so Dan and Shawna work most of their moves into their weekend schedule. “Dolly is my side venture. My schedule is flexible, so I pick up Dollys when I want to buy a new tool, travel, or make up for impulse or unexpected purchases.” And because they do it together, Dan and Shawna still get to spend their weekends together, even when they’re working at their side hustle.
It’s All About the Experience
For Dolly users, Dan and Shawna are also the perfect movers, thanks to the self-imposed standards they follow for each job: “Be early, bring tools (battery drill, box knife, plastic wrap, furniture dolly), and be willing to help out above and beyond the request.”
Even with all the extra help and supplies they bring along, Dan and Shawna find the work doable and worth it. “We’ve only moved furniture, and more times than not, we make more than expected.”
But most important to this couple is providing a great experience for customers. “We’ve found that if we go above and beyond for our customers, they take care of us.”
Miranda is the Marketing Coordinator at Dolly. She’s moved nine times in the past six years, and while she’s grateful for the moving expertise, she’s hoping she doesn’t need to move a tenth time anytime soon.
